Re: Congrats to Del (Ohiococonut)
Thanks Joe! I don't post much but I'm here daily reading and learning from everyone. It's made the learning curve much easier when everyone shares their experience, good or bad. Fortunately I've had limited bad experiences because I've learned from everyone else's mistakes and most of mine were self...

CRAGAR Mag Wheel
I posted this on the Vectric forum but thought I'd show it here also since I don't know who else visits that forum. There are files for toy cars posted on that forum and I thought it would be cool to design CRAGAR wheels from the 70's so I gave it a go in Aspire. It took several hours of tweaking bu...

Re: CNC Shark vs. Shark HD
Two years ago I started with Cut3D, Photo VCarve and V Carve Pro. About a year ago I upgraded to Aspire when the newest version came out and I've never regretted it. It is more than worth the cost of the upgrade in my opinion. There literally isn't anything you can't do and you are only limited by y...

Jon, Having not seen a screen shot of the new controller software I assumed the picture you posted was one. I went to Next Waves site and looked it up and have to admit a little disappointment. I'm sure they made improvements but they aren't readily visible and promoted very well. Now, I'm assuming ...

Have you checked the setscrews on the coupler? They can come loose.

One word of caution. Watch where you position your hold down clamps. It's not a matte of "if" you'll chew into them, it's when
As you learn the ins and outs you may want to consider setting zero to the center of the material instead of a corner. It's just a matter of preference.

Re: Tool-path question
Sorry
In Aspire, in the icon menu on the left it's under Create Vectors. It's the bottom left and looks like a hummingbird.
Across the top bar it's under EDIT towards the bottom.

An easier way is to select the dish and click trace bitmap. Then darken the image as dark as it will go. It will create an outline you can then choose for your roughing and finishing toolpaths. It will only carve what's inside the circle/oval or any outline you created.

James,
I accessed the link from the Vectric forum but wanted to take the time to thank you here anyway.
Thank You!
It's no wonder I keep buying images. Your customer service never ceases to amaze me.

Re: cedar slab carving
Moisture loss through the ends of fresh cut boards or logs is due to the fact that it's open end grain and most boards contain a portion of the pith which is the center of the log. It contains the most moisture and when it rapidly escapes it causes the boards or logs to split. When you seal the ends...
