That is correct, I've tried to cut into a few pens I've turned and unless the pen black rotates, you'll have a deep cut in the center and a lighter/thinner cut on the top/bottom of the engraving. Now, I wonder if you can engrave into the pen blank before it is turned with a picture or something and ...

Recently retired Army here, get the pro. Heck, I'm ready to order a second machine with a bigger deck/table due to the amount of work coming in. I can't keep up.

Corian 1/4 inch thick, white. The bit was a 60 degree V-bit. I'll have to look over the carving details later. But I've been basically 'borrowing' other peoples suggestions and tweaking them until I'm happy with the preview and then cutting them. BTW, they were framed and presented to the grandparen...

The 'issues' I was referring to are the individual cuts that I should of removed along the edges (holes) and the dip/drop in cutting depth halfway through their faces. That was a different depth for about 1/2 inch across and then back to normal. Still looking into that one.
