I did some looking on the Vectric forum and it looks like V Carve will not open STL files. You need to load them into Cut3D first create the tool path then load the toopath into V Carve.

If you want a true market value you need to figure in the total cost of the carving. It would seem that the only limits as to what can be carved it the ability to cool and lubricate. With this in mind what would stop you from placing a pan on the table with an pump and hose to carry fluid out of the pan and onto the bit? I use Aspire and just import them as a model. Haven't used Vcarve yet, but I would think it had the same function.

From the way it went from an arc to a flat line I'd say a wood chip got in the way and jamed your x or y motor.
