I used a 90 degree carbide bit but unfortunately I also ruined it. I ended up having to use my rotary tool and wipe out another small bit to finish it up. I was not happy with the cuts and also would like to know what bits and feed rate to use.

I am not not pleased with how clean the letters turned out but it is doable for now. I feel the next time might be much better. By the way there is very little if any fine dust. I agree with you. I am wish I could find a begineer's reference guide, book something that you can refer back to, not just for newbees either.
