What do I really need when buying one of these?

Post by tonybell9699 »

Hello,

My first post!! So, I am ready to buy the Rockler 60th Anniversary Edition CNC Shark. Do I need to buy the touch plate and probe as well?

I plan on adding small engravings onto military shadow boxes as well as doing brass plaques for names. I know i could get away with the smaller ones, but I plan to expand into other stuff (no idea what yet) and do not want to "wish" I had gotten the bigger one.

Thanks to all, I appreciate it and hope to soon post my first project!!

Tony

Hi Tony,

You do not need a touch plate as it already comes with the 60th Anniversary Edition. You don't necessarily need a probe unless you plan on copying something that you have already made.

Hope this helps,

Hi Tony. I agree on the probe. I've had one for two years, and have yet to use it. Someday maybe, but their is enough to do already, so finding the time to learn a new feature is difficult.
Being retired is hard work. Spending way too much time in the shop these days. (And loving it).

I agree about the probe as well. For the money, I think putting it towards a 3d scanner of some sort would be better spent.

As to the original question, search for some good 1/8" and 1/16" ball nose bits.
