Chips won't eject when cutting profiles

Post by benaroh »

Hey yall,

What the trick to get chips to eject. I'm cutting 5/8 walnut in 5 passes with a 1/4" spiral upcut bit. I've also tried a two flute strait bit.

I cant ever seem get the chips to eject from the toolpath, I end up blowing them out with an air compressor to prevent the bit from cutting the chips twice- which I'm assuming would create more friction and dull the bits faster.

Not sure which router you have. I use the Bosch Colt which has a fan attached to its spindle and when used wirh an upcut end mill does a good job blowing the chips out. Maybe your fan is not working?

It does the same to me, usually only in certain areas, especially corners. Sometimes I am doing nothing and I'll suck them out with the shop vac but it has never affected the final cut.

Double check that you aren't using a downcut bit. We have two small CNCs in the shop I teach in, and the students have a hard time telling an up from a down, as well as knowing which one is up once they see they are different.
