Post by Shipfitter »

Can anyone explain the difference in the post processors CNCShark-USB_NewArcs_inch or the CNCShark-USB_3dContour_inch please.
Maybe it's just to early in the A.M. for me.. :P

Thanks so much

This may help answer some questions on post processor. If not ask more.

Well, it's the evening hours now, and have read that over and over, and cannot still make heads or tails of that document. :)
Maybe someone could explain in lay-mans terms for me. I being only a few months into this CNC stuff am having a hard time interpreting that document.

Being un-knowledgeable on the matter, can I just use one for all. Is it going to make that much of a difference for me?

For now, my advice is just use the inch post processor.

Not to talk down, but you said you are new to this:

VCarve is a CAD/CAM program. The information you enter there (drawings, tool paths, feeds, speeds etc.) cannot be "read" by the Shark. (this is true for all CNC machines) the Post Processor is a third program that takes the info from VCarve and translates it into the .tap file which is a G-Code. The G-Code is a standard machine language. Pretty much all CNCs use it, but each has individual tweaks which is why VCarve comes with so many different Post Processors.

Going in to the post processor and tweaking things as described in the PDF listed above is NOT something you want to be messing with until you know a lot more about how the entire system works.

Use the (arcs) PP for 2D, v-carving, profiling, pocketing and drilling. Use the (contour) PP when using Aspire.
