Shark Pro materials

Post by rsperkins »

Excuse my newbie questions.
I'm looking to create some 3D bas-relief architectural panels, as well as do full cut-outs. I would like to use acrylics and/or 3-form Varia (recycled plastic resin) for the work. I understand there are issues with material melting and bit clogging. Is there any data available for end mills, feed rates, and router speeds in working with these materials? How about with Corian? Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

welcome and all questions should be asked - I recommend you search this forum and the Vectric user's forum using the words: plastic, and corian (individually).

I did a quick search of this forum and found a number of threads that will certainly get you started (and of course some that won't, but you'll be able to see that). The same with the Vectric forum. After that, you may be able to ask more specific questions to help you get the exact info you're looking for. If the search didn't provide you the answers, say so - I'm sure some will post in either case to this thread.

I Machine a lot of Hi-Max which is like Corian. I make cutting boards to match countertops, 3D carvings, and signs. I run the same speed and feeds as I do for wood. My personal opinion, I like cutting Hi-max better than wood. Downside, no pretty wood grains and more of a mess to clean-up chips.

I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

I too prefer corian over wood but it ain't as pretty due to no woodgrain.
