Guitar side bender

Post by Loudspeakerboy »

Here is my latest project.

I was just going to do the standard "Fox" style bender, when on a walk with my pooch I came up with the idea to use 80/20 aluminum, HDPE, and cabinet core plywood to create a hybrid of the Fox bender http://vandruffguitar.com/_images/shop/bendSide.jpg and the LMII bender http://www.lmii.com/CartTwo/catimage/LM ... atalog.jpg . I have used the LMII silicone heating blanket and temp controller (best on the market). Hope to give it a try tonight.

Oh.. and look.. I made a sign on the side of my OM cutaway form..

Cheers, Michael

Wow!

This thing is the bomb! It worked perfectly. It literally took 3 minutes to fully bend a cutaway guitar side. Normally it takes an hour to do it by hand.

Very pleased!

Headed to the shark shop to make more bending forms.

Happy dust, M

Excellent work on the fixture. It looks really professionally built. Just go to show that there is more to CNC than creating the finished project. Impressive work

Oh, also noticed and arched adjustment slot in the aluminum... did you use the shark to cut some metal pieces also? If so, what kind of feed rates did you use?

Thanks Roger

Actually the aluminum parts are all from 80/20.com. I feel my machine is a little too flexible to be cutting aluminum very often. A single flute, spiral, up-cut is the best I've found so far. Ramp in.. the plunge cut is the hardest on the bit, spindle, and gantry.

Cheers, Michael
