CNC Puranha hung up

Post by Tom Riley »

This morning I was making test runs without the router in place. My new Piranha ran through the three tool path files correctly the first time. The file is complex and I am not very familiar with the machine.

On a second try it hung up. The mount stopped and the unit beeped but the display was completely dead. Nothing was visible on the display and it did not respond to touch.

I turned the unit off and then reset it. It cam on but it hung a second time at about the same location.

On the third try it ran steady for more than 30 minutes.

I am concerned that this is a major software error in that the display was dark. It is one thing to have a problem; it is another to have the screen go dead.

Thanks,
Tom Riley

Hi Tom,
Did some part of the machine that was moving, come into contact with something unmoving?
Like tools or materials next to the machine?
Was the router mounted in the gantry for all trials?

This time of year a static discharge could certainly be responsible.

This might be a simple power supply problem.
The power supply might be shutting down.
Give support a call.

Thanks for the input. I think I now understand the problem. It is dropped step count.

I have posted a detailed procedure to address the problem on this Blog, "Detailed Alignment Procedure for CNC Piranha".

Thanks
