Milling steel

Post by killerbees30 »

Has anyone tried milling low carbon steel. I did a test using a 4 flute 3mm carbide end mill at 10000 rpm. I cut a 3mm slot 5 inches long in 1/4" steel. It was extremely slow but successful.

I didn't know how to add to my post. I used WD40 to cool the cutting and I said slow I only took .0054 steps of cuts I know that worked out 48 passes and feed of .3 inches per sec. I know this was slow but I can't cut steel this accurate with anything else I own.
