Using the 7 watt laser - Newbie

I'm looking for advice on how to use my brand new laser, as in workflow and which software to use to burn/etch images & designs. Do I create the work in VCarve and somehow choose the laser as the "tool" or something else?

The objective is to use it to output digital photos artwork, etc.

I have had the laser for about 6 months. I discovered that it is possible to use the Vectric Laser Add-on in order to burn simple vector art. If you are burning pictures, the Ready2Laser software will work. NextWave uses a modified GRBL controller so it is not possible to use a third party software like Lightburn.
