Do I need to make a Table for my Shark Pro Plus?

Post by BobA »

How do I prepare for my Shark Pro Plus that has been shipped?
Do I need to make a Table for the Shark to set on?
If so, What size and details are recommended?
It would be nice to see the setup information ahead of time.
I would appreciate any recommendations.

Thanks,
Bob

I really enjoy this forum.

This is on my list to do. Somewhere there are some posts about someone making a table. Considering it can work with dimensions of 25"x25", going to need some room.

Mine has arrived today so the 3 boxes will be awaiting me when I get home in about 2 hours.

My main focus has been learning the software and how to create images for VCarve and Cut3d to work with.

According to Rockler My CNC Shark pro is being shipped in 2 packages.
I received my probe a couple of days ago if that was your third package.
I thought there would be some software with the probe.

Hi Bob - with regard to the probe - you download the software from the Next Wave website - http://www.nextwaveautomation.com/DownLoads.aspx. You need to be aware that the probe software is different than the basic control panel for the shark, however, they have the same names in your start menu. You can change that though. You'll also need to email Next Wave to get an unlock for the probe software - towens@nextwaveautomation.com. If you provide them the name and serial number of the VCarve software you got with your shark, that will remove one step. Their response is timely.

As stated in this thread, there are several posts on tables that folks are using or have tried. Good luck.

I based my table on the 34"x 34" footprint dimensions mentioned by Al Wolford. My wife had a 6 drawer IKEA drawer block "left over" (ALEX with casters) which is 26" high. That should be the cat's meow for storing cutters, fixtures, clamps and drawings.

Image

Used 3/4"MDF for the table and the base (36"square) mounted heavier casters to the base, reinforced the base with 2x4 and the table with 1x4. Mounted a shelf for the controller box. Sturdy but not too heavy.
Picture to follow when I get back to the shop, "slightly" under the weather due to one more bug in circulation. GRRRRR!
Cheers

Nice setup! I hope that is just the Shark Storage area, it doesn't look like a sawdust friendly area (though I would love to have a shop with that kind of room and lighting).

Hi Bobby,

Yep the actual intended working area is "cleverly hidden" behind the curtain. The Shark will move there as soon as one of our projects gets finished. Workshops are always "a bit too small". :o
