Birth Plaques

Post by kruizer »

Some time last year, there was a fellow that created a birth plaque program and I was wondering if he would be willing to share that file. I have three grand children and would like to make that for them. Thanks,

I've done a few, but not sure if it was mine that you are referring to. I think the one that I may have posted contained a copyrighted rocking horses image from VectorArt 3d.

Roger,
Thanks for your answer. How would I satisfy the copywrite requirements so you could share your file with me?

I can send the V-Carve file without the 3d portion of it which is actually the only copyrighted element.

I want to say thank you to the fellow that shared the birth plaque file. I have removed the hobby horse image and programmed an oval opening in it's place so a picture can be inserted. I think it will be a nice looking thing when it is done.

Kruiser, would mind sharing the file with me. I bought my Shark last year and have left it alone for months as I stayed confused. I have decided to try to learn this thing once again.

I like the idea of making a picture frame, ha ha ha and thought it was an original idea of mine, but see that it was done before I thought of it... must have been a subliminal message that made me think of it. Here is one I did this past week and the CRV file (vCarve 6.5) I made the back cut for the picture offset from the center of the frame face for a reason lest you think I am a sloppy designer LOL .. you may want to center the two up for you purpose. Hope this help. Kruizer may have a better file than I. LOL I may even want to use his when I see it.

Roger,

Love the birth plaque. I zoomed into the photo and it looks like you have raised letters. Are they? I like to two tone colors of the lettering too.

Although I like the compliments about the raised lettering and two tone colors, I have to admit it was all just a little bit of "trick photography". LOL The lighting on my copy stand comes from really steep side angles so as to stop glare from getting back to the lens of the camera and has created some illusions on the picture. The engraving is actually v-carved with a 60 degree carbide v-bit and the lettering then paint filled with rose color latex gloss paint. The dual color effect is created by the shadow of the lighting coming from the side. Although in normal light you do have some of this same shadow effect it is not nearly as noticeable as it is in the picture. Material is Glacier White Corian (bought as surplus scraps to keep cost down). Paint is also surplus, mis-mixed, or marked down paints. I buy as many new quality materials as I can in an attempt to be as "green" as possible. All of the Corian that I use are scraps that are destined for the dump and although I have to buy them they are much cheaper than the true cost of Corian. I have even bought counter tops that were pulled out in renovation jobs. I have a large supply of Brazilian Teak hardwood flooring that I piece together with fingergroove joints to make larger pieces. I pulled this out of the dumpster after it had been put down (new) and remove because something wasn't done right by the contractor. The home owners tried to sell it unsuccessfully and decided to let me have it as opposed to going to the land fill. By the time "scrap" leaves my shop, it isn't worth anything to anyone (although I do have one guy that comes through and pics out some stuff now and then).

Here is a piece of the Brazillian Teak. Matching the shades can be done more skillfully than I have done here but it usually turns out quite will with a little care. This piece contained some of 4 different strips of flooring.

Thanks for the reply Roger. I like that you are able to find wood that would normally go in the trash. I have a new granddaughter and want to make something like this for her. Thanks for the idea.
