Re: Ambient operating temp. ?cold?
I thought it had to be above 50. Being from MI also, I had the old chicken coop foam sealed, installed a lp wall heater and walaa, I'm ready to go! Lol, just kidding, I have no idea how to use this machine. Overwhelmed in MI Christine Knieper It only seems overwhelming. You take it one step at a ti...

Re: Pricing for a toy
I calculate the material costs and then add machining time. Since the shark doesn't machine as fast as some of the larger units, it is hard to really set in stone an appropriate $$/time charge. I get an idea of that and then sit back and look at the item that I am making and decided if it is worth m...

Re: Converting dxf to usable file for VCarve Pro
I haven't been using my machine for awhile but if memory serves me correctly, some dxf files just can't be read by vectric. I believe that about half the dxf files that I found on the internet didn't work unless they were files that someone had created for the cnc. Try to find the files in a differe...

Re: Ambient operating temp. ?cold?
Mine is out in unheated garage all winter. I use a space heater for me when out there. Granted I am in Texas but it gets down to single digits. You might want to put an infrared heater on it to warm up the lube before using in bad cold.

Re: Canceled the Piranha, got the 60th Anniversary edition
Yeah, they strip pretty easily. Especially on the router bracket because of the angle to get to them. I've replaced several already. One day, I'll just break down and change them all.

Re: Chips won't eject when cutting profiles
It does the same to me, usually only in certain areas, especially corners. Sometimes I am doing nothing and I'll suck them out with the shop vac but it has never affected the final cut.

Re: New Rockler 60th Anniversary Edition Shark
Tim, So given the new Rockler, can we expect a new NWA HD 3 this Fall? Looks like significant improvements over the HD 2. Any word on the 4th axis? Thanks. Ed Has anyone gotten a reply about the 4th axis? Seems like it was put out a year ago. I see Tim or others come in and reply about new items fo...

Re: drawing software ?
Yes, vcarve pro is a part of aspire. It comes with the machine. Unless you know that you need to create 3d files, I would just get the vcarve and try it. You will have to learn that software for Aspire anyway. If you decide that you need Aspire, you can contact vectric and they will give you credit ...

Re: What bit to use.
Get a scrap board and type in some letters using different fonts, different bits and different depths. For smaller letters I go with the .25" bits and use the 60 degree a lot. I'll also use the engrave toolpath instead of just vcarve when the letters are small. .01 like tonydude suggested is normall...

Re: Work holding
Be sure that you surface the MDF before you use it to get it as level as you can. I use MDF and like screws when they are feasible. Sometimes it helps to drill the holes before using screws so it gets a good tight fit.
