Re: Another new guy introduction

One problem I have in machining gears out of plywood with the Shark is the "fuzzies". Thanks. Kevin I cut alot of plywood, and get the best results using a downcut spiral for the first shallow pass followed with an upcut spiral for the rest of the cut. Yes, it is a pain to change bits during a cut,...

Re: Some hints for more accurate cuts.

Excellent tip, FixitMike! I've been learning alot about the accuracy the Shark isn't up to despite being able to move .001 at a time. Runout of the collet/bit and flex in the whole system has caused plenty of frustration for me. I basically just design the need to be so precise out of the parts I'm ...

Re: Cutting Correct Diameter Circles

Quite welcome, GlassDale. Don't worry about being a newbie. We were all rookies at one time. My Shark was the first CNC machine I learned to use, and when my job bought a huge Multicam machine I looked like a genius to all the others thanks to having already made and figured out my rookie mistakes.

Re: Touch Plate!

Seems to me there was also a USB Driver update at NWA to be installed before installing the new controller version. Did you do that?

Re: Show Off Your Shark Work at IWF

I'll be at IWF on Wednesday and will stop by and show you an example of the 1/5" scale furniture models I've been cutting out parts for on my Shark. Looking forward to see your booth. Care to mention the booth number?

Re: Touch Plate!

To detect the plate you have to touch the bit with it. The magnetic lead has to be attached to the collet. I didn't think it was working until I caught a glance at the prompt and realized it just flashes "Success" for a moment when the plate touches the bit. The point of it all is to make sure it'll...

Re: Cutting Correct Diameter Circles

If it is simply the accurate dimension of the finished circles, then one problem could be the bit you are using. I started with a cheap 1/8" straight HSS bit when I first got my Shark, and failed cutting recess and inlay parts that should have fit together perfectly. Used the bit to drill a simple h...

Re: Touch Plate!

$90 bothers me as well, but I so enjoyed using a Touch Plate on the big Multicam CNC we have at work that I "knew" one would save me time on the Shark. Ironic that I saw the controller software was updated to include a Step feature, as the precise positioning of the Z level had been what cost me the...

Re: x & y axis

The extended table is an option offered by NWA. You can contact their support directly to obtain a quote, availability and delivery options. I was going to ask where you got the longer pipes and thread, but it look looks like NWA took care of all that detail. Any chance you can mentions what it cos...

Re: What's the Next Feature You Would Like?

I'd love a "table mill" routine to be built into the controller software. You tell it what diameter bit you have in the router, and then set Z on the currentable face. It uses the currect diameter and them mills .020 (or any amount you select) down in a rectangle from corner to opposite corner of th...
