Re: problem with spoil board?

Thanks guys. I haven't had time to figure it out, but I think it could be the internal stresses in the hardwood spoilboard. I will be making one of mdf soon and will then be able to test. That's a great idea about the angle under the bed to stiffen. It would be nice if the t-track bed was actually p...

Re: problem with spoil board?

Thanks for the tips guys. The base is fully supported on 3/4" ply on a very sturdy table. I'll check if there is deflection as the gantry travels along. I wouldn't be surprised if this could happen as the machine is not that sturdy and I have been disappointed with the problems with the T tracks not...

problem with spoil board?

So I recently made a new spoilboard for my CNC shark pro HD. I made it out of hardwood and made it so there were T slots in the top. I surfaced it a while ago and then I noticed that it seem to be not planar anymore so I figured it must have been from the wood moving as a result of moisture etc, eve...

Re: zero out spoil board

To that same point, Is there a way to set the 0,0,0 point and not have the bit start there? For instance if I am cutting a thin piece of plastic. Say it's a circle. I have my 0,0,0 point in the centre of the circle on top of the material. When I zero the Z, the bit is just touching the plastic, whic...

Re: Router clamp issue- again! unbelievable

Thanks Rod - I didn't see that, but my Bosch 1617 router has a tapered portion that sits well above the bolts, about 2" actually. So it is not an issue with the bolt heads. Thanks for the tip though.

Cheers Peter.

Re: Router clamp issue- again! unbelievable

Thanks - I have the CNC Shark Pro Plus HD. I've had it for a few years and it was up at my father's place which he used it primarily for signs. I'm starting to use it for more guitar building and I need it to be more stable. Eventually I want to get up the nerve to cut fret slots which are 0.023" wi...

Re: Router clamp issue- again! unbelievable

Thanks Rod - Yeah I have been looking all over the forum. This started off as a bit of a rant because it really was my own fault. I knew there was a reason I had my router sitting so low in the clamp. Unfortunately I had to ruin a nice people of maple, not to mention having to plane the top from a g...

Re: stability upgrades & other

Thanks Bob - Lots of great information there. I think I will look at getting the aluminum plate for the back and also work on using some hardwood slats and tying them into the slats and having them planed as a spoil board as well. I have an MDP spoil board now that is laminated to 3/4" plywood. It's...

sppeds and feeds - sorry

Hey guys - I understand that this has been covered to death probably but I did search and read a lot of threads but am still a little confused. I have been using my Shark for quite some time and haven't had too many issues but want to get things right going forward. I have a Bosch 1617 router - vari...

stability upgrades & other

Hey guys - I have some questions regarding the modification of my Shark Pro Plus HD 25"x25"x7". My dad and I initially purchased this to do signs and nick nacky things. It is great for that. I have recently got into building guitars and find I want to use it for more precise operations. I was consid...
