Engraving an aluminum micrometer dial

For the first real test of my new harmonic drive 4th axis (see http://www.cncsharktalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=5372 ), I used it to engrave an aluminum micrometer dial on my Shark HD. I had a few difficulties along the way but I think it came out pretty good. http://www.brainright.com/Projects/CNC/...

Re: 4th axis harmonic drive build

I just published the Part 2 video of this project: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaEhkF9S0mY For the video I did just a quick test of it on my milling machine, and soon I will use it to make a more interesting project using the CNC Shark. http://www.brainright.com/Projects/FourthAxis/firsttest.jpg

Re: New CNC Controller using DDCSV1.1 Panel

Thom, I ran a test with a series of alternating M10 and M11 commands that control the 'lube' output. It's pretty much the same as the spindle enable, and it has a separate delay setting which I set to zero. The pulses vary from about 130ms to 230ms so I'm guessing this is not adequate for your purpo...

Re: New CNC Controller using DDCSV1.1 Panel

Thom, I'll be glad to run this test as a benchmark for comparison with the original Shark controller. Right now I'm in the middle of building a 4th axis unit, and I just published part 1 of that build at http://www.cncsharktalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=5372 . Once I finish building the 4th axis, I p...

4th axis harmonic drive build

I'm building a new 4th axis assembly using an ultra-low-backlash harmonic drive gearbox, and this is what I've made so far: http://www.brainright.com/Projects/FourthAxis/drivetrain.jpg I posted more info on my website at http://brainright.com/Projects/FourthAxis/ , including a Part 1 video of the bu...

Re: New CNC Controller using DDCSV1.1 Panel

Thanks for the suggestions but I consider this in the public domain and anyone, including NWA, is free to use or adapt this design however they wish. And for anyone who thinks they couldn't make one, yes you can. Most of the work is just mechanical, making the enclosures and mounting all the parts. ...

Re: New CNC Controller using DDCSV1.1 Panel

No, this connects to the inverter (VFD) to provide a spindle-start signal and a 0-10V signal that sets the speed. Having those signals is convenient but not necessary, i.e. one could just set the speed manually and start/stop the spindle with the buttons on the VFD. One could also just use a router ...

Re: New CNC Controller using DDCSV1.1 Panel

This completely replaces the NWA controller. I put my own 16mm 4-pin aviation connectors on the stepper motor cables from the Shark, and they are connected directly to my power module with its stepper drivers. I generate G-code files using Fusion 360 but I actually used the Fusion post-processor scr...

New CNC Controller using DDCSV1.1 Panel

I just finished building this new controller to run my CNC Shark HD 2.0, and eventually to run other CNC machines in my shop: http://BrainRight.com/Projects/CNCController/Controller.jpg This replaces the original Shark controller box and gives me a pendant-style interface with MPG wheel, standalone ...

Re: Fusion 360 Post-processor

Yeah I understand, the cloud-based storage of Fusion is definitely a tradeoff. I like being able to collaborate with others remotely on a shared project and also the fact that all my projects are continually backed up and availabile on all my PCs but I'd be wary of it if I were developing anything r...
