Re: Struggling with dust collection setup

Is it possible to add a smoke detector inside the enclosure, or will the dust trigger it constantly? It would be nice to have an indication of fire before everything is melted and the fire is out of control.

Re: A shark hogging aluminum. Yeah right.

That sounds fantastic. The lack of gantry stiffness has almost made me a little jealous of the Axiom CNC line. What a great upgrade. I've never attempted any metal cutting. The baseline Shark has an MDF bed, prohibiting liquid lubrication/cooling. I'm also using a router, rather than a true spindle....

Re: A shark hogging aluminum. Yeah right.

Thom! You're back! It's great to hear from you again. That's an impressive upgrade. Would it work for the original Shark series? It's what Bob and I have. I still frequent these forums, but my CNC machining time has been divided by a 3d printer and a laser cutter. It's the trifecta of creative home ...

Re: Issue with stopping/pausing

Have you tried replacing the USB cable between the PC and the controller box? Many users have reported problems with the default cable or cheap replacements.

Re: Issue with stopping/pausing

Which controller are you using? Laptop/PC or pendant? If it's a pendant with a touchscreen, it could be detecting false touches. If it's a PC, it's possible someone is hitting the keyboard by accident when the pause button it highlighted. Pushing [ENTER] or [SPACEBAR] after starting will pause the c...

Re: Stepper motors

They can be replaced by another stepper that matches the spec, but unless it's already broken you probably won't see any benefit. The amp rating signifies the maximum current permitted. The electronics control how much current actually passes through, so unless you're replacing the electronics also,...

Re: Newbie needs step-by-step VCarve Pro instructions

Vectric has a free trial of their software that you can use:

https://www.vectric.com/free-trial/vcarve-pro

It won't let you save the projects you create, but it's a great example of hands-on learning. Lots of video tutorials are available, too.

Re: Bosch colt changed

Kerry, they're talking about router clamps, which secure the router to the machine. The article you referenced talks about workpiece claps, which ensure that your material doesn't slip while machining. BTW, did you help write the article? It doesn't list the author. The title is a bit clickbaity, bu...
