Re: Shark Piranha vs Piranha FX
The Porter Cable 73xx routers are not the same as the Dewalt 611. The one that's pretty similar to the Dewalt 611 is the Porter Cable 450. We looked at the 73xx router a while back and most of them we saw had poor runout in the router itself. Not trying to talk anyone into anything, just wanted to ...

Re: Shark Piranha vs Piranha FX
I think you'll be fine. That is the same as the dewalt. I have both and only the color is different.

Re: Shark Piranha vs Piranha FX
Which porter cable is it? if it is the 7310, I think it is the same as the dewalt but under a different brand. If you already have it, you can measure the runout and see if you would be happy with it.

Re: Shark Piranha vs Piranha FX
I can't speak as to whether the add-ons will work (I have the plain piranha and have the same question), but don't get the colt. Get a dewalt 611 as it has much less runout. Precise bits will not even make a precision collet for the colt anymore. I have both and the dewalt with a precision collet me...

Re: New Piranha FX owner
Rick, that is a good question and the answer is yes/no/kinda! The Z axis will still move up and down 3 inches of course. But... if you have a really long bit in the router your spoiler board might keep you from using some of the uppermost z movement.l But...you can slide the router up in the clamp s...

Re: Tiling offset
Do you have a problem, or are you just bragging? :) Seriously, .002 over that distance in wood seems like nothing to me. A change in humidity could cause the workpiece to swell or shrink by that much. Even machining metal, one or two thousandths over any distance with moving setups is hard to achiev...

Re: New Piranha FX owner
Rick, I got the basic Piranha the first of this year, and share your impression of the documentation. But...the machine is great and has exceeded expectations. For the router/spindle portion, this forum and the vectric forum as well as the vectric tutorials will let you figure it out pretty quickly....

Bob, looking forward to future lessons. I didn't download the first one because I don't have photocarve, but really like to learn about the shark from experienced users,

Re: Touch Plate Preference Settings / Z offset issue
On my piranha it is off by .019. It is totally consistent. The only thing you should be careful of is to insure your controller remembers your setting. On the piranha, it forgets everytime it is turned off, so I need to reset the offset whenever I use the touchplate after turning off the machine. NW...

Re: DRASTIC Z DEPTHS CHANGES
4 year Shark Pro user. Haven't seen this one yet. Using the pocket clearing option with a Vbit tool path I notice the depth goes from .045" deep to .100" while running the tap file. I E stop it, then hit return to zero. So no spiral cutter drift. It goes back to my preset zero without any depth cha...
