Re: Spindle maintenance
I have used RV Antifreeze for coolant for 3 years now. I get the pink color stuff at my local big box store. I changed it this year just because, but it was still pink and didn't look dirty at all. I don't dilute it. Use it full strength! I live in Wisconsin, so it does get cold, but I heat my shop ...

Re: Struggling with dust collection setup
I would use a Oneida Dust Deputy with a shop vac. It will work just fine for you.
You could either use a 5 gal bucket with a lid or something larger that won't have to be emptied as ofte n.

Re: Shark vs Axiom
I agree!
I know many people who have a Shark and love them. I probably just got a bad one and Next Wave never offered to replace the machine, so I returned it to Rockler and got the Axiom

Re: Shark vs Axiom
The best suggestion is for you to try and decide on what you intend to use the machine for and then get the most machine you can afford.
I have had a HD4 for 3 months and returned it and got a Axiom 4 Basic. That was 3 years ago.

Re: UPS
If I am not mistaken, the NWA spindle is only 110V, so you can look on Amazon for a power supply. I don't think they are very cheap, but probably wort it if your electrical service has glitches. I would make sure it's over sized to be on the safe side.

Re: Vetric Pro programs
As I understand it, you can have Vectric software on 3 computers, but can only use one at a time.

Re: Workflow: Design to CNC
Aspire would probably be your software choice if you want to design your own projects. In VCarve Pro, you can import 3d models, but not create them. As for the machine you choose, there are many available to choose from. Some even have the ability to hook up a 4th axis for turning. Laser is another ...

Re: Feeds and Speeds
Speeds and Feeds depend on what you actually want to cut. As an example, if you have a 15" square and want to cut at 150 IPM it may cut that fast, but slow down when making turns. If you have a nice 2.5d carving and you're using a 1/16" or 1/32" tapered ball nose and try running at that speed, it re...

Re: spoilboard issue
Probably.
MDF is easy to surface and it will stay flat. Particle board will expand and contract more with the weather. That is probably why you can't keep it level.

Re: spoilboard issue
It looks like you're using particle board for your spoil board. I would suggest using MDF for that use. It's more stable and stays that way.
