LED projects

Here's some pictures of a couple of recent acrylics LEDs I made this summer for retirements and an anniversary. The fire trucks I traced out from photos to get better details. Also changed the cross hatch angles in the diamond plate areas to add perspective. For the name plaque, I carved the guys' n...

treasure chest top

My niece asked me to make her a treasure chest to hold her cards at her wedding. I decided to use the Shark to carve out the inside and outside of the curved top. I glued up some oak and went at it with the moulding toolpath option. Ran into several clearance issues with the sides of the router hitt...

3d carving of maine

I recently completed a 3d carving / wall hanging of the state of Maine. We wanted to highlight the mid-coast region (show off some towns and islands) so I came up with the idea of dropping the surrounding area and then make the mid-coast look like it's under a magnifying glass. I also increased the ...

Re: 3d signs & cribbage boards

Hi Thom, I have not had issues with it gumming. Maybe you're not waiting long enough. I apply with a foam brush from lowes. Re: 3d signs & cribbage boards

Hi Gordon, Lacquer dries quick. 3-4 hours is good enough but usually I'll let it sit over night if I'm not in a hurry. I used to use poly but it tends to turn the white's yellow after awhile.

Re: 3d signs & cribbage boards

Thanks. I found a website called Terrainator.com for the terrain models. It's real easy to navigate. I do the terrain first then I stain and add a couple of coats of lacquer with it still on the machine. Then I cut in the text, lakes, essentially everything that needs paint, 0.020" from the top of t...

3d signs & cribbage boards

Hi. I just joined the forum after being a guest for quite awhile. I've learned a lot from you guys so thank you all. I think I've finally got good enough to give little back. I've been making some 3d terrain type cribbage boards and signs for friends that have a camp on a mountain or lake in my area...
