Football Snack Tray
Another project I created for Woodworker's Journal, a football shaped snack tray, just in time for the Super Bowl!

Re: Plexi cutout problems
Look into cutters made for plastics. Onsrud specializes in them. Single flute is best. Fewer flutes means less friction, so less heat. "O" flute bits are excellent, they tend to curl the chips rather than breaking them into pieces. Low RPM with higher feeds are better. You want big chips that fly aw...

Re: Slows down for radii
I'll have to look into this, it may be a setting in VCarve. I typically use DeltaCad to do my drawings, then save them as .dxf files telling the software to preserve the drawings as 'entities'. This keeps the curves and splines from being rendered as line segments.

Re: Slows down for radii
As for what you can do to alleviate this, it is in the preparation of the drawing. How are you preparing the drawings, and converting them to G-Code? When I draw in DeltaCad and save as a .dxf, it gives me a couple options for how to handle curves and splines. That is where you are likely to find th...

Re: Slows down for radii
Every move of the router, of ANY CNC router, includes a 'ramp up' and a 'ramp down' command. Obviously, you do not want the machine to slam from zero to full speed instantly, and stop instantly at the end of a move. Even in full sized steel framed machines weighing thousands of pounds need to do thi...

Re: Surfacing a Spoil Board
The short answer is yes. I created my spoil board 22" square and made the rectangle 22 1/2" square so that the bit covers the entire board.
I created a video that shows the entire process I use for making a spoil board. You can find it in the show off your projects thread.

Re: z zero leaves a mark
I do not have a touch plate, I set zero using a piece of paper as a feeler gage. I set zero with the paper just dragging beneath the bit. That way the bit does not touch when the program starts, and if I'm using more than one bit, they all get set to the same zero, or so close it does not matter. Al...

Re: Problem with Move to 0,0,0
A few things to look for mechanically: First, when you jog the head for your adjustment, be very sure you are not raising it too high and hitting the upper limit. The stepper will think it is still moving upward, but it did not so when it goes back to zero, it will be too low. Second, be sure that t...
