I would sandwich the aluminum between two pieces of plywood when cutting and small steps and it should cut OK.

Even worst is running a 6 hour program and with a half hour left the hydro flickers off for a half a second but the laptop running my machine keeps going. When the power comes back on the router started up and continued from where it stopped and ruined the piece. This has happened twice in the last ...

I have the 1/4" shaft set and find it is so long that it vibrates and I am using the precision collets. If your router lets you use 1/2" shanks that is what I would buy. Pete

In the toolpath operations menu use the Tile Toolpaths option and it will take you thru setting up how to do it. Pete

Using a bit with the bearing off poses one big problem. You would have to set the z zero at the bottom of the threaded portion and then have your depth of cut of the cutterpath set deeper to accomodate the length of the bearing shaft of the cutter. Much easier to design thin in a program such as autocad then import the dwg file. Vcarve is not the easiest to design in. Pete

I usually pick up my end mills from e-bay. 1/4" I usually pay 7-8 dollars a peice and fet about 50 hours from then. When they are dull you can usually get them resharpened cheaply or pitch them. photo's to vectors
Does anyone have any software that can take a photo and draw it as vectors that cut 3d can use? Looking at photos of motorbikes and cars and want to convert the photos to vectors for carving and also editing out vectors that are not needed. Thanks in advance. Pete

precisebits.com has 1/8 collets and nuts. They are not cheap but well worth the money as runout is virtually eliminated. Pete
