Re: Designs for Engraving

I'm with Tony on this. I always Google line art after entering what your looking for. Just about any drawing can be used. If you need to clean it up a bit, I use GIMP. It's free, very powerful, and pretty easy to use. I also have a program on my iPhone that turns a regular photo into line art, calle...

Kitchen utensils.

Been playing with kitchen utensil ideas, and was given this idea from a very special lady friend of mine. I love making salads, and spend a lot of time chopping veggies on my chopping board. So, instead of scooping up small handful of veggies, I now scoop up lots at one time. Before I get comments a...

Re: engravings????

I bought mine off the internet. I'll have to find the paperwork, don't remember. You want the one with springs to apply even pressure on uneven surfaces. Mine fits into my router just like a router bit, but turn the power off. It drags the bit, so the router is just there to hold the bit in place.

Re: controller software questioned

4D is correct as usual. Everything you need comes with the Shark, or downloadable. You'll be up and running before you know it.

Re: engravings????

You can use V Carve Pro or Aspire, just use the engraving tool path for the diamond drag bit. Nice thing about the diamond drag bit, you don't have the router going, so the only sound is the stepper motors, which is a pleasant quietness.

Re: engravings????

Here's a couple examples of using the diamond drag bit on a piece of counter top granite. Granite floor tile from Lowes, or any tile supplier for $5.00 each works just as well. The last photo is a Myan Calendar, or Astec, whichever the case may be, done in acrylic. The results are amazing and very d...

Re: engravings????

You can engrave any soft metals, or hard with the diamond drag bit, as mentioned. Also, granite. Works on just about any smooth surface.

Re: Text on text wedding sign

Look under Tony's post "Another Text on Text" post. Not too far back in the Projects portion of this forum. He explains pretty much step by step procedures.

Re: Text on text wedding sign

Done several of these ever since you posted you step by step instructions. One of the coolest designs around. Once again Tony, thanks.

Re: First Acrylic Carve

No advantage, I just personally like the looks better, plus less effort in setting the file up. Just personal preference.
