Re: Is It Just Me

I've asked about this a few times the last 2 years - not much impetus to do this apparently. Part of the problem is technical in nature (somewhat dated technology so all on/all off), as well as corporate/lawyering in nature... In the meantime I'll try to check a little more often - you guys are welc...

Re: Is It Just Me

For clarity - this forum is 'owned' and operated by Rockler. Historically they've had no presence, and NWA's presence has been limited as well. Myself - I've had some priorities change the last few years between the family and the day job, and frankly have not been here even weekly at times. It may ...

Re: engraving large plastic laminate pieces

I've moved to bits from ToolsToday for plastic work. Depending on your machine, you may want to slow it down a bit as well. A 'wood bit' doesn't seem to cut as cleanly as it's not necessarily designed for this material.

Re: Controlling with Laptop

A couple of things I have learned to date about the HD4 hardware/Shark Control Box - you have to be running Windows 10, and even then there is no Shark Control Panel (that I am aware of) that will actually enable you to run a cutting job. As a long time user of Sharks, this has been pretty frustrati...

Re: First large engrave project: Harry potter fans

Well it worked for you and in the end that's all that matters. It seems like a lot of material and run time using a 1/16 BN. Another approach might've been a pocket toolpath - and use a clearance tool as well. Endmill use might've cut down on some of the sanding. Thanks for sharing the project!

Re: First large engrave project: Harry potter fans

Ok - but I assume you are using a pocket toolpath for some/all of this?

Re: Z-Axis adjustment

I agree about moving the router 'up' a bit in the clamp so that only the flat/barrel side is used. I would look at this though with a 'flat' rod in the chuck and a small square - against the table. From the pictures, it isn't clear to me if that wood held by the bit is actually 'flat' against the ta...

Re: Problems with 3D Carving

So, if I understand your description correctly - 2 different projects (tap files), and nose dive at the same spot on the table - correct? If that is the case - did you capture/jot down the x,y location? And if you did, or even if you didn't - what happens when you jog around that location - do you g...
