Re: First large engrave project: Harry potter fans

That's a really nice project. Thanks for sharing. While I don't work with pine, I do work with other softwoods at times. There is a different in outcome using a down cut vs up cut end mill and the amount of sanding. IDK if you were using a down cut or not, but you might try that in the future to see...

Re: Problems with 3D Carving

This kind of condition is almost never the result of the tap file. In my experience and observation, it is either: 1) mechanical or 2) electrical. 1. Mechanical - check the lead screw for the z axis (in this case) to ensure it is tight. There is a 'flat' part to the lead screw that the set screw sho...

Re: Start up

Yes - once you start up the 'first time', the next time you start from a complete power off, it should show 'Shark'.

Re: Recommendations for disassembly and shipping of Shark CN

Hi Bill, Sorry for your loss. I can't speak to the best company to ship - it will be expensive I suspect all around. As to disassembly - I'd remove the router and then unbolt the gantry from the base unit. The 'original' unit was shippped in 2 boxes - the base unit in one box, and the gantry in a se...

Re: Line spacing

I'm like Bill, but sometimes I also use the Alignment Tools - Space Selection tool. Draw a rectangle that covers the entire area you want the text to be centered in. Then select the individual rows, and select the rectangle last, and use the Space Selector tool. This will evenly space the text withi...

Re: making signs

While the spoil board may be a problem, I'd also check to ensure the bit was secure in the collet - this could've been caused by a loose tool.

Re: Post processors

NWA has not updated their post processor doc from 2011 - however: There are now 2 post processors available for use with no modification, each having an inch and millimeter mode: - CNCShark-USB_3dContour_ - CNCShark-USB_NewArcs_ The difference between the 2 is the Set Path Control Mode G64 Px.x (Con...

Re: cnc shark doesnt support tool changes??

Hi James,

Create 2 toolpath tap files. One for the rough and one for the finish.

Run the rough job, change bits, rezero z for the second bit, and run the finish job.

Re: Shark HD4 stuck at front 6" of machine

When you say stuck at 6" - is this the gantry carriage/location of the router - or when you look at the gantry where it is mounted on the bracket that runs on the metal tubes - that bracket is 6" away? Did you look under the table to see if by chance something may be blocking the movement across tho...

Re: What file extensions are supported by Shark CNC?

Steve - thanks - that's the most important point. And while it's been 5+ years since I looked at this in any detail - http://cncsharktalk.com/viewtopic.php?f ... 97&p=10186. This may be a helpful starting point to those working with other software sets and generating the file.
