Re: G-Code
.TAP files created for the Sharks contain lots of info that I'm sure help generate the preview. For example, this is header info of one of my files: ( DewaltPlate ) ( File created: Sunday, August 18, 2013 - 12:32 PM) ( for CNC Shark from Vectric ) ( Material Size) ( X= 8.000, Y= 8.000, Z= 0.233) ( Z...

Re: 4th Axis usefulness?
We have two machines with a rotary axis attachment in the university shop I teach in. Took a year to find a student project that needed to be cut on one rotary. Few will use the lathes we have these days. I've started making/collecting examples to keep around to give them some ideas. Like any new ma...

Re: Convert Gcode to tap file
The G-Code in a Tap file is preceded by header info the controller looks for. It is added by the post processor when tool paths are saved. I know I've been able to get .TAP files to run on my tinyG controller which simply ignores header info, but suspect you'll need to add header info to get the sha...

Re: Auto tool changer
The challenging part is how to change out a bit if all you have is one spindle. For $14,995 you can add tool changing to your ShopBot CNC, but then you've tripled or more the cost of a Shark. I also own a Probotix CNC that uses LinuxCNC to control it and have figured out how to make the machine move...

Re: Microsoft 10
I've updated to Win10 and Aspire 8.0 and VCarve 7.5 both work fine. My Controller is on another machine with Windows Vista so I can't speak to that.

Re: Is the Shark HD3 Upto the Task?
Another brand to consider is Probotix. I have a Shark Pro at home and an HD 2.0 at work, but we've also added Probotix.com's Meteor and Nebula to the CNCs at work. The frame design is convenient for opening up to cut vertically/at an angle as it uses 2 Y motors. and nothing runs under the table to g...

Re: v8 firmware
Firmware or registration number? If it is asking for a registration number then check your old emails you got from NextWave. The new version should work with the old number. If you can't find it then your best bet is to call/email nextWave support.

Re: v8 install
It works fine for me. The new features were worth the upgrade which should be free anyway.

Re: Control Panel 1.6 does not move the Router. But....
Looks like 1.5 is taking care of initiating a connection to the USB port/controller, but 1.6 isn't. Try turning the controller off before launching 1.6, then see if it prompts you to power it on. If/when it does, turn the controller on and see if it can control it then. Also be sure you don't have a...

Re: not finishing cuts
It looks to me like that V-groove started and stopped at the same point, but simply wasn't at the same depth when started. V-Bits get dull pretty easy, and a dull one won't plunge well. It may have flexed the bed down or router up at the beginning, and then only worked down to cut depth as it moved ...
