File Extensions???

High All!!!

Finally getting my machine up and running and have project idea's I want to try.
My desire is to carve Religious Hymns of various types.
So far I have been unable to find any shared except one and it has the file extension of .crv3d designed in Aspire.
I am using the VCarve Pro that came with my machine and am unable to open .crv3d files.

Can someone explain if possible to convert .crv3d files to a compatible VCarve Pro File?
Also, does anyone have any files for any Religious Hymns in a format I can use?

I am very excited to get started carving!!!! I also have some beutiful Flamed Maple that's been sitting around waiting for a project such as this.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!

You cannot open aspire files unless you have aspire period. If the aspire file has 3D model you cannot save it as a vcarve pro file, only the parts that are not 3D you can change. Look at the support tutorials at vectric, there is a lot to learn there. Take the time and study and do the tutorials. Are you wanting some kind of 3d carving of some kind or are you just wanting the text of the hymns engraved in wood or another material. What I think of when I hear you talk about it is that it would be the text of the song carved in wood with an appropriately selected type style (font) to make it look nice. For that you can more easily (and higher quality too) use VCarve Pro to engrave it by simply typing the text in the arrangement that you would like and engraving it with something like a 60 degree v-bit. Then to make it stand out, put a clear coat on the top surface (if done in wood), fill with paint and squeegee off extra then sand and put final clear coats on top again. You don't actually have to start with a "file" of the song, you are the one that is making the file, and it would cut much more quickly than a 3d type file.

Like most, I tend to get in a hurry and forget to look at the instructions.
Also, Yes, I am wanting to make a plaque with the sheet music (notes & bars) along with the words.
Mainly Religious music. i.e... Old Rugged Cross, Amazing Grace, I'll Fly Away......

I was overthinking things and making this alot harder than it should be.
You are correct, making a 2D carving in Pro is the way to go.

Tony’s advice is good for creating text and you should look at the tutorial regarding text and converting text to curves.

As for the sheet music. You have some options. It is unlikely you will find a sutible 3d source that is compatible. But if you have a simple image file (picture file like jpg) you can create your own vectors. You can import the bitmap type file to VCP and use a tracing technique to draw the vectors. I would approach this by creating a library of musical symbols and a music “grid”. In the beginning you may find this time consuming. I think you will find it easier once you develop your skills.

Once you copy the music note symbols over the music grid you can use the same edit vectors technique used when creating “stacked text.

Your idea is a good one and I may give this a try myself.

I also took a look at the Vector Art website for music symbols. The Vector Art 3D files (*.v3m) are the most compatible files to import to VCP. You can import multiple models of this file format to VCP version 8.x. The library that is distributed with version 8 is the same format. I don’t see any music symbols in the library. Some music symbols available from Vector Art 3D. See the attached links below.

Another option! There are also music symbol vector file available at Shutterstock.com. I have had some success with working with Shutterstock vector files (*.eps) You can open the eps file with VCP and edit the 2D vectors. This technique should work from other sources too.
