Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Winter Tree
WHY???
1.) It is not going to grow!
2.) and when it does not grow, it certainly will not create any additional wood to carve!!!
But sorry, no not here!!!

Re: Winter Tree
Thanks for your comment, I guess.
My, this board has changed.

No, I haven't, I'd never imagine. Getting the branches to look natural, but at the same time convey the feeling you're after for the tree, that's a bit of artistry they didn't intall in this unit . Then having to deal with "but, don't make those branches TOO thin....", and whole making that a scultped surface. Yeah...more artistry than technical work for sure. Were the techniques you used a "normal" combination that might be pieced together from their tutorials? Or did you have to come up with Aspire techniques to make it work? If there were special (magical?) ways you made it work, please do share them. Even if I never use it myself, there are people in the Rockler CNC club here who might find it useful for their pieces.BillK wrote:Anyone else design a tree in Aspire?
Don't mind sharkcutup; his humor is intended for good, not evil. We're the ones who sometimes don't get the joke, but the joke is rarely mean-spirited.
Oh...and duh...of course the board has changed...you carved a tree into it, dude! .
Quite well done, Bill. Thanks for sharing.

Thom

Re: Winter Tree
For some reason, those branches make me think that you could also do a cool lightning motif.
Never tried either design, however. Running VCarve rather than Aspire, so I haven't messed with modeling.

Re: Winter Tree
I guess the key to Aspire is that it makes something like a tree model not only possible but fairly simple.
For this design, I started with a picture of a single branch that I thought would look good in a carving. Some mirroring, rotating, node editing, stretching, copying etc. and soon I had a whole tree.
The trunk of the tree is sculpted using one of the bark textures, scaled down and overlayed and trimmed to the tree outline.
So the longest time output is in the 2D drawing of the tree. The modeling was completed in about a tenth of that time.

Re: Winter Tree
Intrigued by the lighting motif comment. Can you expand on what that might be?
Re: Winter Tree
Lightning, not lighting. The branches by themselves seem similar enough in form that they might work for lightning without too much fiddling. Maybe a few clouds on top to go along with it and you've got a great plaque for a weather station or thermometer/barometer.
Re: Winter Tree
Thanks, that would make a cool design.
