Bit milage

Re: Bit milage
For drilling on a scale like that, I would purchase drill bits designed for CNC drilling. Several vendors come to mind, including Precise Bits - http://www.precisebits.com/products/car ... fractional. End mills don't make good drill bits for the pecking toolpath.
Re: Bit milage
I use a 1/8 carbide ball nose end mill for all my crib board holes. I find a drill bit is not stiff enough and will wander when it hits different grains in the wood. I make about 200 boards a year and get about 100 boards with 1 end mill before it needs replacing. You can get them on e-bay from China for about 5 bucks a bit. Pete
Re: Bit milage
Thanks guys. I do order tools from precise bits, so I will definitely check them out. I like the $5 bit idea too.
I tried the 1/8" drill bit, and it worked well, but I only used it in soft pine. I can image it would wander a lot in anything harder.
