Can someone please advise me if the Bosch Colt regular router is sufficient for this sytem, or if the variable speed is preferable?
Thanks.

It depends upon what you are planning to do.
For the cutting that I do with 1/4" dia or smaller bits in wood, I just leave it set on high speed. But those few times when I cut plastic or use larger diameter bits it's nice to have the ability to select a slower speed.
I prefer the versatility of variable speed.

Simon, don't limit yourself to one speed, you'll outgrow it, spend the extra coin.
