boB,

Sorry about the typo. Too many keys not enough fingers. 1/8" with 10% step over is approx. .012". I have a Shark PRO, I probably shouldn't be posting here on a PLUS page....

I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

That was my bad. I was looking in the forum for related topic about bits then I ended in the pro plus section. For whatever reason I started my topic in here rather in "general" category.

Thanks for the help!

REG wrote:I did a sign similar to what you directed using my V-bit. It came out very nice with a good angle on the inside of the circle I used. If I used a square bottom, I don't think the effect would have been as nice but my circle was right around my image that I used. I will post a photo of that project later.

Here is the project I mentioned. It is a bald eagle. I imported the image and cleaned a couple nodes and less than 10 minutes later I am done.

It will take hours on all the links but thanks for the posting I found them helpfull . But do you have a basic list of what minimum bits one should have to do basic projects and set up an initial machine.

I check MLCS first for bits because they have free shipping.

My suggested list:

Necessary bits:
60 degree V bit
90 degree V bit
1/4" straight bit

Bits you will eventually want:
1/4" upcut bit
1/4" downcut bit
3/16" straight bit (This is my personal preference for profiling.)
1/8" straight bit
1/16" straight bit
3/4" straight bit
3/8" plunge straight bit

If you are going to do 3D work:
1/8" ball nose bit
and possibly 1/4" and 1/16" ball nose bits.

Also, you may want a 22 degree V bit for V-carving small (say 3/16" high) letters.

45 degree V bit, not 22 degree bit for small letters. But you can use the 22 degree bit for really small letters.
