Touch Plate!

Post by cnick60 »

I see on the rockler sight that NWA has released a "Z" zero touch plate...and for only $89.99!

And what would one do with that?

Automaticly sets your Z Axis zero point. No more guessing if you've set it at the right point.

I would like to see this in action. I could use that when changing bits.

I was just going to suggest they make one. I've been using a Multicam 3000 at work and it has been delightful to use it's touch plate to set Z=0 as well as bottom of plate. Knew it shouldn't be hard as the Probe proves the controller is capable. One contact on a plate you set below the bit. Typically the second contact you attach to the router collet with a magnet. The routine moves the head down slowly until the bit touches the plate closing contact. The software knows how thick the plate is and subtracts that thickness to fix zero Z position. Plate made of aluminum so touching down or crashing down won't ruin the bit.

The user manual for the Touch Plate is here: http://www.rockler.com/tech/43803CNCTou ... ctions.pdf

I ordered one too. Shameful price though. About $5 worth of parts. New version of the contoller software require, and to register it you need the number off your plate. No making your own.

I'd pick one up, but I am trying to pay some things off right now. It will be on the list after Aspire and a Touch Probe.

I believe it is a bit more than $5 worth of parts. Clever little thing though.
Looking forward to getting mine.
