Pro Plus travel speed.

Post by FixitMike »

What is the maximum (ipm) X and Y axis travel speed for cutting with my Pro Plus? i seem to remember 100 ipm. The Owners Manual says: "<value>". The high speed travel speed is listed as 125 ipm.
The reason I ask is that when I use a 1/4" spiral bit at my router's lowest speed (16,000 rpm) and 100 ipm cutting rate, it SCREAMS. The recommended cure is to increase the cutting rate or decrease the RPM. The RPM can't be reduced, but if I could go higher with the travel speed, it might help.

In your tool data base for the tool your using just change the feed rate to 150 instead of 100. That's what I do.

Their online manual shows the high speed positioning (jogging) rate as 120. They don't list a cutting rate but like you, I remember seeing 100 somewhere. I don't recall the colt minimum rpm but I have reduced my speeds with the 1/4" endmill to closer to 50-60 ipm otherwise I get too much flexing and the cuts aren't as good.

I have a DeWALT DWP611PK router and the slowest speed is 16,000 RpM. It would be nice if I could reduce it to about 6,000 rpm, but that's just not possible with its control.
Reducing the feed rate to 50% doesn't help the noise.

If I use a V bit, the noise is much, much, less. But of course, that doesn't work for profiling.

I have the Shark 2 control panel, and use VCarve Pro 7.0.

Tonydude: Note that I have a Pro Plus. I don't believe it will go 150 ipm. That's why I was asking the question. I guess I need to run some more tests.

Check for an update. Version 7.5 is out and it is free to 7.0 users.

Yep, that was one thing the update routine didn't change. Easy enough to change the icon name though. ;)
