Bosch 1617 collets

Post by Devlin »

Suggestions on a 1/8” collet for a Bosch 1617 router. Or should I waste my time with 1/8” shank bits.

I use a 1/4 to 1/8" adapter to use smaller bits. I don't know if anyone has a 1/8" collet for a Bosch router.
You can get them at Rockler and the work just fine.
Precision Bits does sell a replacement setup for Bosch and Porter Cable routers.
I haven't tried them, but others on this site have an like them. They claim a much lower run out than the standard collets that come with hand held routers.

The adapters work well enough, but many people complain they have a lot of runout. Eclaire sells precision collets for the 1617: http://www.elairecorp.com/routercollets.html

I bought one of their 1/8" collets for the Bosch Colt and I've been extremely happy with it. There are a wide variety if 1/8" bits for detailed work, like making PCBs or detailed 3D cuts. It's been a great purchase for me. I also bought a 6mm collet in the same order so I could take advantage of some of the cheap chinese CNC bits that come in that size (often mislabeled as 1/4", which is 6.35mm).

Kayvon: Those collets look to be a better choice than using the adapter.
I may try one myself.

I started with an adapter from eBay. Probably cost $2. I quickly found that I would end up using 1/8" bits often enough to justify the cost.

You'll be happy with Eclaire. Their a little slow on these low-quantity items, but I've been very happy with the results.

www.precisebits.com has collets. I used them for few years before switching to a spindle
