If I'm using an endmill of a known diameter, I set an offset of 1/2 the bit diameter usually at the bottom left corner of my workpiece. In other words, neither of the two options shown in the sketch above. I use a scrap of paper, and sneak up (using a .005" step) until the bit traps the paper agains...

Anytime I hear of a runaway I suspect a corrupt file. If you are using a USB stick to transfer file from your PC to the Shark system then simply pulling out the stick while it is still in use can muck a file up royally. Best thing to make routers last longer is to run them one notch slower than their maximum speed. Often the bearings used aren't design to spin continuously at the max speed that the router runs. It's also a good idea to change out the brushes before they fail completely.

I've revised my design, and since I now have a bed clamp that lets me grip small parts easily I cut the side profile as one piece out of 1.25" thick hardwood. I then mount the clamp flat in my vise and cut the slot for the bolt. Short and long versions in this file. Separate file for the slots. Firs...

I've had the plug end that goes into the plate break contact twice since I bought my Shark. Simple metal fatigue. Be sure and touch the plate to the bit before hitting OK to start the probe. Even that can fool you as the movement may temporarily make contact inside the plug end.

A little pricey, but a Tesla Power wall can be a great investment, especially if your power rates vary between peak and off-peak consumption times.

You do have the options for climb or conventional with the profile tool path. I've found just about anything I want to do can be done in Vcarve, although it may take dividing the perimeter vector into more than one section and making separate tool paths for each.

If the version of Vcarve you have has the Moulding toolpath (on the toolpath side) it can be used to create any chamfer angle using a ball nose bit. You simple draw a vector that slopes down at the angle you want (essentially a side view of the chamfer) and pick a line for that "shape" to be extrude...

In Aspire when I enter 99 for the tolerance and use it once, then close the Join window it defaults to 99 the next time I use it.
