This was created by using Bob's super simple 4th axis. Normally the part cuts in x and rotates in y, but in this case the part cuts in x and z simultaneously and incrementally rotates in y at the end of each pass. The contour is created in V carve in the xy plane, and then the toolpath is edited to cut in the xz plane. It is cutting in the true xyz plane without creating the part in 3-D.
I plan to show this at our next users group meeting and hopefully get some feedback and comments, because this is still in the rough state and needs further tweeking.
As can be seen, the engraving is backwards due to the y axis rotating in the opposite direction from the design.
