1/16" endmill
I have a project that is going to require a 1/16" endmill. I picked up 2 of them because I thought I will probably break one. I know that I need to really slow it down for the bit. I was wondering if anyone out there is using one and what feed rate are you using to give me a ballpark of where to start.
Re: 1/16" endmill
What material/wood will you be cutting?
Re: 1/16" endmill
Oh yeah, I guess that would help. 1/8" hardboard. If I can find it, 1/8" plywood.
Re: 1/16" endmill
I use the feedrate that is set in the tool database, but I start the feedrate at 25% and increase it from there if the material can handle it. I always start ever tool at 25% feedrate regardless.

Re: 1/16" endmill
I just started with the Shark and the first thing I tried was a doll house ( I know start big LoL ) I am using the 1/4 shank 1/16 bit I broke the first one in about 45 sec $10.00 down so I reloaded and slowed it down to 30% and 16000 rpm it worked great and that was in 1/4 in pine I also used the same setting on 1/4 plywood and it walked right through it no problem...I hope that helps ..Martin

Re: 1/16" endmill
I'd run a 1/16 the inch bit at about 30 ipm and a cutting depth of about .040"
I generally recommend a cut depth of a little less than the diameter of the bit.
Milo, lowering the FPM is great for correcting a problem during a run, but once you decide that running the bit at 30% of the feed rate in the tool list, you should reset the tool list to reflect the new feed rate.

Re: 1/16" endmill
I ended up running it at 25ipm and it did good. I like to figure out my speed and put it into my tool list settings. That way I never forget to adjust my fro. I rarely use the fro unless I start to hear the bit have problems.
Re: 1/16" endmill
I use it in MDF quite a bit and run it at 100ipm and depth of 1/32". It's a single flute bit that I got from MLCS.
